Welcome to Mike Miller
Here are two small collections, with a third just underway.
Paintings posted on the Snapshots page are primarily based on old black-and-white family photographs. They represent my attempt to use the exacting physical act of painting to disclose what was ignored and excused, a troubled history.
The China 2005-2007 paintings recall my brief stay in that country to study Chinese law. It was a wondrously hopeful country then, you sensed a fresh, addictive energy everywhere.
The Philadelphia page is just starting to fill. I picture Queen Anne’s lace and blue chicory flowers growing through sidewalks. Paulownia trees along rail lines and narrow row houses with marble stoops. Maybe Atlantic City. The broad silver Delaware and rowers on the Schuylkill. Christmas along Market Street and July Fourth on the Parkway. This place is my home.
Please enjoy.
